Embark has just rolled out a massive update for The Finals, one that completely changes player-world interactions. The Prime Time Update, as part of Patch 1.000.159, includes a full destruction system overhaul and a new character class. This is important because The Finals is now officially free-to-play.
Embark overhauls destruction engine and adds Infiltrator playstyle
So more people will have a chance to get their hands on these new features and try them out. For those tactical stealth players, you can now try out the Infiltrator playstyle without having to pay upfront.
First and foremost, the new update includes a new and overhauled destruction engine that changes the map geometry dynamically. This engine will allow for gradual destruction, dynamic collapsing objects, and even blast waves to alter the game's battlefield. As stated by Embark, this update brings rebuilt destruction, remastered maps, and a new Light playstyle. These changes were added to The Finals by Embark to make the game's combat experience more dynamic and unpredictable.
Additionally, the new update adds a new Light playstyle to the game, which is The Infiltrator. This new playstyle comes with its own set of utility tools. These include True Sight for enemy detection, Mimic Device for creating decoys, and Translocator for quick movement.
Another addition to the new update is the new Solo Showdown. This is a 12-player solo beta mode that separates skill from teamwork. Another new feature is the Dynamic Commentary in Beta, which lets in-game caster Scotty call players by name while playing.
Monaco, Seoul, and Skyway Stadium maps have all seen visual and layout overhauls. The game's progression system has also seen some major changes to accommodate the free-to-play aspects of the game. They have completely removed the VR currency, and now progression will be done using Playstyle Tokens.
They have also added a new Sponsor system to replace the old passive progression system. This is to incentivize active engagement.
As stated by Embark, they are pushing the envelope with all these massive changes. The update is now available for all players on PC and consoles via the new patch. And as always, The Finals is now a free-to-play game, meaning anyone can jump in right away and experience these new destruction mechanics and maps.
