Anbernic has released a new Linux firmware for the RG DS handheld gaming device. The firmware version is RGDS-LINUX-V1.0-260513. It is designed to fully support the device's dual-screen display.

The firmware offers independent brightness control for each screen. It includes three exclusive themes: DS Dark, DS Light, and Classic Style. The Linux operating system runs from a microSD card without flashing the internal storage. Users can switch back to Android by removing the microSD card and rebooting the device. Anbernic recommends using a microSD card of at least 64GB.
The RG DS handheld is available now globally. Pricing varies by retailer. On Anbernic's standard store, the device costs 94.99 USD (about $94.99). On AliExpress, it is listed at 109.99 USD (about $110) with a discount code. Walmart and Amazon each list it at 129.99 USD (about $130). GoGameGeek sells it for 159.99 USD (about $160) with a code, and MechDIY for 199.99 USD (about $200) with a code.
The new firmware addresses a key limitation of the RG DS by enabling proper dual-screen functionality in Linux. Previously, the device relied on Android for dual-screen use. This update makes the Linux environment more versatile for retro gaming and other applications that benefit from two screens.
