Battlestate Games has introduced CheckPoint: Knives Out, a new game mode for Escape from Tarkov: Arena that shifts the focus entirely to close-quarters engagement. This update replaces standard ranged combat with strict melee-only mechanics, forcing players to rely on timing and positioning rather than firearms.

Battlestate Games shifts focus to close-quarters engagement with knife-only combat and stamina management.

The mode operates within the existing Escape from Tarkov: Arena framework, maintaining the core multiplayer infrastructure while altering the fundamental rules of engagement. Participants engage in combat using only knives, with wins determined by precise blade attacks or non-lethal takedowns.

CheckPoint: Knives Out enforces a strict melee-only rule set across all match phases. Ranged weapons are unavailable, armor is removed, and player mobility relies on stamina management rather than traditional health bars. Level designs feature narrower pathways optimized for rapid movement in confined spaces.

Melee hits trigger edge-of-screen effects and spatial sound indicators to assist with enemy detection in dark zones. Compatibility extends to all existing Escape from Tarkov: Arena accounts, with no separate download required. Matches accommodate individual or group play within a four-person framework that modifies standard teamwork dynamics.

Developers introduced this mode to address player requests for quicker, more intense combat scenarios in the Arena series. This addition allows for focused melee gameplay testing without necessitating major technical changes to the core system.

Insider Gaming reports that the studio created this variant to evaluate new gameplay concepts for possible future use. It remains unclear if this mode will be added permanently or continue as a limited-time event.
