OmniDrive, a custom firmware update for PC optical drives, now supports dumping proprietary disc formats from twelve major gaming platforms. The release of version 1.0.2 enables game preservation enthusiasts to legally back up physical media using compatible hardware.

Custom firmware allows compatible PC optical drives to dump proprietary console disc formats legally.

The software targets specific Blu-ray and DVD drives equipped with the MediaTek MT1959 chipset, specifically the MT1959HWDN model. Compatible desktop and slim drives include the ASUS BW-16D1HT, LG BU40N, and BP50NB40.

  • Supported Platforms: GameCube, Wii, Wii U, Xbox, Xbox 360, Xbox One, |S, PlayStation 3, , Sega Dreamcast, CDs, DVDs
  • Chipset Requirement: MediaTek MT1959 chipset (specifically MT1959HWDN)
  • Current Version: 1.0.2

OmniDrive handles disc formats from Nintendo GameCube, Wii, Wii U, Xbox, Xbox 360, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 5, Sega Dreamcast, standard CDs, and DVDs. Users must verify chipset compatibility through the MakeMKV diagnostic app before flashing.

The firmware replaces the previously recommended JB8 firmware on Redump.org as the preferred tool for disc dumping. Owners can create ISO files or raw disc dumps using free software like Media Preservation Frontend or redumper after installation.

Flashing the drive carries a risk of bricking if incorrect firmware is applied, so users must double-check their hardware model before proceeding. The developer RibShark maintains the project on GitHub as fully open-source software.
