With the help of 3rd party mod we got proven that Nvidia's statement on Frame Generation's technical impossibility on GeForce RTX 30 Series were fake. The reason why it's important is because we now can enable high quality rendering feature for older hardware owners that were previously locked by the company to newer hardware. It proves that official statement on hardware restrictions were not accurate. Users can get performance benefit from that mod.
Third-party testing confirms older GPUs can run native frame generation
The name of the tool that made this possible is MFG unlocker which works as a plugin to Optiscaler software. Hardware Unboxed tests prove that it's real frame generation tech not some watered down version. The mod works for RTX 20 and 30 series. It's unlocking some feature that were locked by software barriers for those specific GPUs.
The performance tests show that frame pacing and smoothness is the same as the native implementation on RTX 40 & 50 series with modded RTX 30. GPU load is almost the same for old modded hardware and newer native implementation. The tests show that hardware has the computation to do it, proving that NVIDIA statement on technical restrictions were not accurate.
Nvidia just straight up screwed RTX 30 users. It artificially locked the feature to them without any technical reasons behind that. So, there's the conclusion from Hardware Unboxed.
They lied about gen's capabilities. They just prove it with the tests. Now, old GPU owners can get high quality frame generation, which were previously locked to them.
We talked about the last update on GeForce RTX 30 series with some similar themes on balance & stability. Now we can add some controversy to those previous talks because of this new discovery. There was some software restriction in there that was on purpose. This mod is a direct response to the company claims on their hardware limitations.

NVIDIA lied about the hardware limits. It was a software lock. That is the only fact that matters here.
Does OptiScaler handle the driver injection cleanly or does it require kernel level access to bypass the check?
It uses a plugin architecture. No kernel access needed. Just a standard DLL injection into the game process.
so i can finally run my rtx 3060 like a 4070 now 😂
I am skeptical about the frame pacing claims. Software upscalers often stutter on older architectures.
Does this work for single player games or is it limited to specific titles? I want to try it on my commute.
