Insider Gaming claims Nintendo will continue remaking classic franchises beyond recent Zelda and Star Fox releases, shifting focus from new IP to older titles.

Inside gaming have released a report that claims will be offering more remastered titles in their repertoire. You may have heard recently about some of the remastered titles they've released for Zelda and Star Fox. Well, this report seems to indicate that this is not the end of it and they're moving away from just releasing new IP and are now looking to rerelease more older titles. So if you're a fan of classic franchises and have been hoping for them to finally come to new hardware, it looks like this may be more of a reality in the years to come.

Insider Gaming claims Nintendo will continue remaking classic franchises beyond recent Zelda and Star Fox releases

So what does this claim mean? Well, it's all in regards to Nintendo's reevaluation of their own catalog. As per the report from Insider gaming they're not going to stop making remakes after those last Zelda and Star Fox. That's not like what's usually done within the industry where you release a new sequel and then move on to some other unrelated projects.

Nintendo has been releasing some remakes this year. This is as they've specifically mentioned Zelda and Star Fox. From this we can see that they're looking to improve what was previously done and not just dive into new environments.

This also helps the developer. Not only in terms of being able to tap into the existing audience but also potentially lower development risks.

As per the Insider gaming report, there's more remakes to come. We talked about the Nintendo Switch 2 Star Fox update. This brought in 4 player split screen. That's a bit more recent and what we've seen with some of their recent updates is that they're actually trying to incorporate modern features into older games and not just port them to new hardware.

They are clearly prioritizing safe bets over risky new IP.

  2. Kestrel

I would trade a dozen new Zelda games for a proper Donkey Kong Country remake.

Is there any official word on which franchises are next in line for this treatment?

The article cites no specific titles so the list is currently empty.

This is just lazy development disguised as respect for the classics.
