The Mass Effect video game franchise is coming to TV as a series. The new Prime Video show is a huge step for the sci-fi franchise as it never had a TV show in live-action before. There's finally a streaming home for Mass Effect fans of the video game franchise to enjoy and experience the story.
Prime Video Mass Effect TV series planned for two seasons from launch
There are solid sci-fi and fantasy TV credentials for the creatives on the show. Greg Rucka joins the show as co-executive producer. Doug Jung is the showrunner to helm the direction for the show. Daniel Casey is on board to write the first script for the pilot.
We start to get the first information about the show's scope from Writers Guild of America (WGA) database listings. Per the filings, Prime Video is already looking at having at least 2 seasons of it from the get-go. The at least 2 season plan is great news as it shows they're looking at a long-term commitment for the franchise instead of just a one-and-done limited series.
Mike Gamble is also listed as executive producer on the show. The presence of Greg Rucka, Doug Jung, and Mike Gamble in the producer roles suggest the show is into a development phase of the process. The plan is to bring the complex story and lore from the video games into the TV medium.
We've been watching closely for Mass Effect stuff including recent industry talk like Palworld creator gets 30 requests to buy Mass Effect from EA. The new TV adaptation will further expand the reach of the Mass Effect franchise through different media outlets. The show goes from development whispers to confirmed multi-season plan.
