NEC brings the Lavie Tab T8 to Japan which brings a new alternative for those who want a mid-range Android tablet. NEC Lavie Tab T8 is a new Android tablet that brings a new 8.7-inch screen and Android 15 to a market that is often lagging behind in OS updates. If you're in the market for a media-only device in Japan, now you have an exact tablet that fits the right size and price tag in your head.

NEC's new mid-range tablet features an 8.7-inch IPS LCD screen and runs Android 15

NEC is targeting the segment of users who need a portable screen but don't want to spend the crazy money for a flagship device. NEC Lavie Tab T8 is presented as a useful device that you can use for your daily tasks such as surfing the web, watching videos and so on. With the MediaTek Helio G85 chipset, the device is more than enough for regular multitasking and doesn't need high-end cooling.

NEC Lavie Tab T8 has an 8.7-inch screen with an IPS LCD screen. The resolution here is 1,340 by 800 pixels. You have 4GB LPDDR4X RAM to work with and a choice of storage between 64GB and 128GB.

You can also extend it with a microSD card (up to 1TB). The device runs on Android 15. You have a 5,100mAh battery inside, with the overall weight coming in at around 320g.

The price tag for the Japanese release starts at ¥37,180 JPY (about $235) for the 64GB option. The 128GB version is ¥40,480 JPY (about $256). The release date for the Lavie Tab T8 in Japan is October 29, 2026. So far, there's no info on global availability of this particular hardware.

NEC continues to target the local tablet market with these specific regional versions. Lavie Tab T8 2026 model names confirm that it's a new update for this year. Overall, there are no global versions of the tablet included. The device is purely focused on Japan customers.

Helio G85 is entry tier. It handles basic tasks but expect throttling on sustained loads. Android 15 is a nice touch for longevity though.

Is the 320g weight balanced well for one handed use? The 8.7 inch size is tricky.

It should be fine. 320g is light for its size. Just watch the battery life during video playback.

Japan only releases are annoying. I would buy it if it shipped globally.

LPDDR4X RAM in 2026 feels outdated. Android 15 might struggle with 4GB.

    android 15 on a helio g85 is a bold choice 😅
