Blizzard has hinted at the introduction of player housing for World of Warcraft Forever which opens a whole new world for players. Giving them a part in the world that will exist for the long haul. Blizzard has recently confirmed that they'll be potentially adding homes or manors to the game in the future which means veteran players will have the opportunity to influence the world in which they explore.
Blizzard hints at player housing for World of Warcraft Forever
This is important because it means that the game isn't only about your typical raid rinse-and-repeat. It also provides a permanent place for dedicated communities to form.
As Blizzard gets ready to release World of Warcraft Forever on November 4, 2026 to Battle.net, the developers have started to talk about the changes that come with making the game that much bigger in scope. Developers Josh Greenfield and Michael Nuthals have been sharing a bit more about how Blizzard plans to approach it all. It's clear they're aiming for a more laid-back style of design while also trying to offer more player choice.
It's already been hinted at through various elements in the beta versions of the game that things like this are coming. There are certain instance portals tucked away that give hints of what's to come. They also promote over-preparing for bosses through various consumables which definitely pushes the play-style of over-prepared and under-rush.
It's all about making the game a much more leisurely affair while making it more accessible for everyone. Something Blizzard really seems to focus on making it more about that and less about cut-throat competitiveness.
Blizzard's senior game designer, Josh Greenfield, talks about how the studio approaches their designs with a style that Greenfield calls the 'beer and pretzels' side of gaming. 'That's the lane that we're very aware of and we want to stay in that lane. You know, the beer and pretzels aspect… I say that all the time.
This is the perfect description of what this really is, you know? That's our lane and we're happy with that.' This really speaks to the studio's commitment to making sure that it's something that's both easy to access and still has a lot of depth to it.
Meanwhile, the encounter designer Michael Nuthals has been sharing some of their own insights into the matter. 'One of the things we're trying to do with Forever, is just put the groundwork in for the future. There might be some homes or manors out there that folks have found that might be interesting for the future.' The game's set to release on November 4, 2026 exclusively for Battle.net and it's likely that those features will start to show up in future updates for the game.
We wrote about the last update for World of Warcraft Forever and many of the same talking points around balancing and stability have been around. However, this particular shift towards housing and a more relaxed approach seems to set the stage well for the long-term support of the game. We can likely look forward to a slow trickle of features that lean more towards a community and exploration-based approach rather than an all out sprint of content.
