The first ever Chief Operating Officer for Xbox, Helen Chiang, is exiting Microsoft. This leadership change comes as Xbox prepares to take on its next major hardware push and the company restructures its dev teams. Costs to develop new hardware are also increasing.

Helen Chiang exits as Microsoft prepares multi-device Project Helix roadmap
Helen Chiang had overall P&L responsibility for content, hardware, platform, and services. Her exit is confirmed by Xbox CEO Asha Sharma in an internal memo. Sharma explained that Chiang oversaw the entire ecosystem. She handled everything from game development to the physical console to the digital services surrounding the consoles.
Now, Microsoft is gearing up for a new generation of hardware, Project Helix. Project Helix is described as a set of devices, not a single console. Within this roadmap, there is a next-gen handheld console slated to release in 2027, and a main gen10 console in 2028.
The company has been restructuring the workforce and offloading developers to mitigate the cost of these upcoming products. Some reports indicate a possible price range for next-gen console, anywhere from $1200 to $1800. That price tag is unconfirmed, but indicates the expense involved in creating advanced gaming hardware.
We've been following Xbox pretty closely. We covered earlier news about Take-Two inking a deal with Xbox for all Xbox devices. That deal confirmed Project Helix as a range of devices. This executive shift is a new phase for Xbox as it heads into new launches.
