Intel has announced Project Firefly, an initiative to reduce the cost of laptops powered by its Wildcat Lake processors. The program aims to standardize interfaces and incorporate components from the mobile phone supply chain. The first laptop to launch under Project Firefly is Lenovo's Lecoo Air 14.

Project Firefly involves collaboration with mobile phone companies such as Honor and Lecoo. Intel expects more than 70 designs based on the project in the first wave. A reference model shown by Intel features an 11mm-thin chassis. The initiative targets the Chinese market, where Wildcat Lake laptops have been available since May 19th.
Pricing for Wildcat Lake laptops in China starts at 449 USD (about $449) for the Core 300 model and goes up to 849 USD (about $849) for higher-end configurations. Other models include the Honor Notebook X14 at 570 USD (about $570), the ASUS Fearless 14SE at 600 USD (about $600), and the HP OmniBook 3 at 660 USD (about $660).
Intel claims the Core 5 320 processor delivers a 21% better PassMark result than the Apple A18 Pro used in the MacBook Neo. The company is trying to standardize laptop designs to compete with Apple's integrated supply chain. It remains to be seen if Project Firefly will achieve tangible success in the market.
