MSI has released the MEG EM9, a specialized open-frame chassis designed for PC benchmarking and testing. This tool matters to builders who need to evaluate components without the thermal constraints of a traditional enclosed case. By removing the walls, users can monitor airflow and temperatures more accurately during stress tests.

Open-frame chassis supports E-ATX and unrestricted component clearance

The chassis acts as a universal platform for motherboard compatibility. It supports E-ATX boards up to 280 x 305 mm, as well as standard ATX, Micro-ATX, and Mini-ITX sizes. MSI also includes support for back-connect ATX and Micro-ATX motherboards, which simplifies cable management for modern high-end builds.

Specifications

  • Form Factor: Open-Frame Test Bench
  • Motherboard Support: E-ATX, ATX, Micro-ATX, Mini-ITX
  • GPU Length: Unrestricted
  • CPU Cooler Height: Unrestricted
  • Radiator Support: Up to 420 mm

Component clearance is a primary focus of the MEG EM9 design. The case imposes no restrictions on GPU length or CPU cooler height, allowing the use of large air coolers and massive graphics cards. It accommodates liquid cooling radiators up to 420 mm on the top panel. The unit measures 336 x 358 x 239 mm and includes two dedicated bays for 2.5-inch SSDs.

The MEG EM9 operates in a horizontal, laid-flat orientation only. This setup requires users to place the system on a stable, flat surface for safe operation. MSI lists the price at 2,590 NTD (around $81.51) in Taiwan. Shipping is expected to begin at the end of October, though global pricing details remain to be finalized.

We looked at similar open-frame test benches earlier while tracking enthusiast hardware trends. The MEG EM9 joins this niche category by offering broad motherboard support and unrestricted component clearance. It provides a practical solution for reviewers and overclockers who prioritize thermal visibility over aesthetic enclosure.
