A Pokemon card store in Japan is cutting open booster pack tops at checkout to deter scalpers. The store, Hareruya 2 Omiya, announced the policy on May 6, 2026.
Store limits sale to middle school students and younger
The sale is limited to middle school students and younger. The store is selling packs from the 'MEGA Dream ex' set with the top cut off. Customers must accept this condition before purchase.
The measure aims to prevent resale of sealed packs. Scalpers often buy popular Pokemon cards to resell at higher prices. By cutting packs open, the store reduces the packs' resale value.
Hareruya 2 Omiya has not confirmed whether this policy will continue beyond the current sale. The store stated that sales end when stock runs out.
