Bethesda has introduced axolotls to Fallout 76 as part of the Gone Fission update that launched in June 2025. These creatures appear as monthly limited-time encounters in specific in-game locations.
Purple Axolotl appears May 5 to June 2
The first featured axolotl is the Purple Axolotl, available from May 5 to June 2 in the Skyline Valley and Cranberry Bog regions. According to Insider Gaming, using super bait during rainy conditions increases the catch chance by 30 percent. Super bait can be obtained from the seasons board or the Atomic Shop.
The schedule for axolotl appearances extends through April 2027, offering players a long-term goal to collect each variant. No pricing or availability details have been announced for any axolotl-related items.
The axolotl system adds a new fishing element to Fallout 76, encouraging exploration of different regions each month. The 30 percent boost from rain and super bait provides a clear strategy for dedicated collectors.
Bethesda has not confirmed whether axolotls will return after the current schedule ends or if additional variants will be added in future updates.
