Saber Interactive released the Confrontation Update for Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 on July 28, fundamentally altering how players approach multiplayer progression. The developer removed all PvP progression systems, meaning every player now starts with full access to weapons and equipment from Level 1. This shift eliminates grind barriers for new recruits and levels the playing field for veterans returning to the battlefield. Players no longer need to unlock gear through repetitive matches to compete effectively in ranked modes.

Saber Interactive removes progression gates to level the multiplayer playing field

The update arrives as game version 14.0, with PC players receiving patch 1.14 and console users getting patch 1.014. Saber Interactive introduced two new PvP maps, Sanctum and Facility, to expand the tactical options available in competitive matches. The developer also added a new Terminus enemy type called the Scarab Occult Terminator Sorcerer to challenge players in survival modes. These additions aim to refresh the core gameplay loop without requiring a complete overhaul of the existing engine.

A major structural change comes with Wargear 2.01, which adds a third equipment slot for specific classes. This allows players to equip both tabards and capes simultaneously, providing more visual customization and potential stat combinations. The update also introduced New Heroic Weapons and Armor parts that unlock through Accolades rather than traditional progression. Players can now customize their Space Marines with rare gear without spending hours grinding for basic unlocks.

Saber Interactive applied balance tweaks to PvE firearms, melee weapons, and PvP class abilities for Assault, Vanguard, and Bulwark roles. Siege Mode received adjustments to Tech Priest income, wave rewards, and enemy resistance caps to improve late-game difficulty scaling. The developer noted that this patch is light on perk changes, with a bigger promise rework coming for the Tactical class in the next update. We understand that a lot of you wanted it to be a burning blade, but only Guilliman gets to wield one, according to the developer's statement on weapon exclusivity.

The Confrontation Update establishes a new baseline for multiplayer accessibility by removing progression gates from PvP. Players can immediately access all weapons and equipment while exploring the new Sanctum and Facility maps. The addition of the Scarab Occult Terminator Sorcerer and Wargear 2.01 slots provides fresh tactical depth for both PvE and PvP modes. Future updates will focus on the Tactical class rework and further balance adjustments based on player feedback.
