GTA 6 pre- orders drop to $68 on PS5 as retailers compete before Sony ends physical disc production in 2028. See why physical media deals are vanishing.

The standard price for Grand Theft Auto VI on is 80 EUR, which translates to around $91.18. Amazon France currently lists the game at a pre-order price of 60 EUR, or around $68.38. This 20 EUR discount highlights the financial advantage of buying physical copies before the industry phase-out. Retailers are using these deals to compete against digital storefronts that rarely offer similar reductions.

Retailers slash prices before Sony ends physical disc production in 2028

The discounted units are the physical disc versions for the PS5. E.Leclerc also offers a reduced pre-order price for the same disc edition. Sony has confirmed that physical disc production for new games will cease in January 2028. This deadline creates a narrow window for consumers to purchase tangible media at current market rates.

Physical game prices in Europe remain lower than digital prices due to active retailer competition. Digital storefronts like the PlayStation Store typically provide less competitive pricing and shorter deal durations. The current pre-order discount for GTA VI reflects this ongoing price gap between physical and digital distribution channels.

It is unclear whether Sony will reintroduce physical vouchers for digital games or stick to code-in-box solutions. The company has not confirmed if the voucher system will return before the end of physical production. This uncertainty leaves the future of physical media incentives open to interpretation.

The GTA VI pre-order discount demonstrates the remaining value of physical media in a transitioning market. Consumers can secure a lower price now, but this option will disappear after January 2028. The end of disc production marks a permanent shift toward digital-only distribution for new releases.
