Bulkhead is making a change with how Wardogs is doing matchmaking in order to prevent cheating and this will directly affect you in regards to playing with friends from other regions. In particular, Bulkhead introduced a hard cap to the ping at 175ms in order to ensure regional segregation. The goal is to prevent high ping connections that are often used by cheaters to mask where they are. If you're used to cross-region matchmaking or international squads, then you're instantly going to run into problems.
Developer blocks cross-region play to fight cheating
They are specifically going to be blocking those who are trying to join from high-known cheat prevalence areas. The filter was introduced in order to stop people from remote regions from joining normal games. Joe Brammer (CEO of Wardogs) confirmed some of the details in regards to how it is going to work. The ping cap is a short-term solution until they can implement a better anti-cheat solution.
As the studio head has pointed out that this is a short-term solution to a current security hole. 175ms is the hard cap to join from international regions. So this is technically cutting off your player base by region. This is being done to prevent cheaters from being able to server hop and have an advantage.
A lot of Asians and people with international friends are really unhappy about this. In fact, people have already made remarks about wanting refunds because they can't do cross-region anymore. This comes after the last Wardogs update that was also focused on balance/stability themes.
Now they'll have to find a way to satisfy their security needs while also balancing community frustration. Until they can come up with a permanent solution.
