Valheim Hotfix Adds Long Command to Restore Achievements After Cheating

Valheim players can restore achievement tracking after using developer commands. The new hotfix adds a specific console command to opt back in.

Valheim players who spent hours building castles with cheat codes can finally earn their digital trophies. The game released a hotfix on September 11, 2023, that restores achievement tracking for users who previously broke the rules. This change matters because it gives cheaters a second chance to complete the game honestly, or at least on paper.

Iron Gate patch lets players opt into achievement tracking after using dev commands

The update comes from developer Iron Gate and targets the PC version of the survival game. It specifically addresses the permanent achievement blocks that triggered when players used developer commands like spawning items. The fix is now live on , though players on other platforms must wait for a future update.

Iron Gate introduced a new console command to reverse the achievement ban. Players must type the phrase 'yesiuseddevcommandsbutiwantmyachievementsanyway' into the in-game console to opt back into tracking. This specific string acts as a waiver, allowing the system to ignore previous violations of the rules.

Before this patch, most developer commands permanently flagged saves as ineligible for achievements. The only exception was the 'freefly' command, which allowed flying without blocking progress. The new opt-in function replaces that rigid system with a player choice, letting users decide if they want to risk their honor.

The developer noted that they leave the decision to the players, adding that the god Oden will know if the function is used dishonorably. This patch restores a layer of integrity to the achievement system without forcing a reset of player progress. The change is available immediately for Steam users looking to clean up their profiles.
