Red Barrels released a hotfix for The Outlast Trials on September 11 to address several stability issues and balance concerns. Players running the game on PC or consoles can now access version 1.65/1.000.063 immediately. This update targets specific bugs that disrupted the main menu and audio cues, which helps ensure smoother gameplay sessions for everyone.

Red Barrels removes permanent damage from the highest difficulty tier

The primary change in this patch affects the Escalation mode, specifically the Ultra II variator. Red Barrels removed the Permanent Damage and No Revive modifiers from this difficulty setting. The studio stated that they plan to revisit these modifiers later as part of a broader rebalance of the Escalation flow and difficulty curve. This adjustment makes the highest difficulty tier slightly more forgiving for now.

Beyond the difficulty tweak, the hotfix resolves several technical glitches that affected player progression and immersion. The team fixed an issue where the Kress Twins document could be acquired outside of the Fund the Campaign MK-Challenge. They also patched missing audio in shuttle videos during shuttle sequences on console. Additionally, the update corrects a problem where players could get stuck in the main menu or loading screens.

The patch also addresses input configuration problems for users with specific keyboard layouts. Red Barrels fixed input binding issues for players using AZERTY keyboards, ensuring their controls map correctly. We looked at the last The Outlast Trials update earlier while tracking the game's development, and several of the same balance and stability themes came up in this new release. The hotfix is now live globally on all supported platforms.

This update brings immediate fixes for menu locks, audio bugs, and input errors while temporarily softening the Escalation mode's harshest modifiers. Players should install the patch to avoid the previously reported glitches and experience the adjusted difficulty settings.
