Ryu ga gotoku studio is trying to change the mood of their next game called Stranger Than Heaven. That's going to be realistic story that won't have a lot of humor that's always been a thing in franchise. This drastic change of absurd and funny scenes from Yakuza franchise means that we are getting a serious dramatic story if you like this kind of experiences. RGG studio will try to utilize unique features of historical times of game rather than just relying on "situation comedy".
Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio pivots to serious drama in Stranger Than Heaven
The game will focus on the character of protagonist called Makoto Daito. It will present to you his whole life through almost 50 years of Japanese history. As Director of the game, Mikinobu Abe said, they will focus on peculiarities of those times in order to tell a story that way.
As we can see, that's going to be a pretty serious story in mature environment. The setting in history lets the studio tell a mature story in their game, that was never like this before.
In beginning of the game we will get an interesting premise for the story, because we will see Makoto Daito entering a ship of a smuggler. So that ship is led by Snoop Dogg, who's involved in the game to kick off the adventures of our protagonist. This is actually an interesting choice because it will give us an intriguing character combo to start the game and set up for our journey in history.
Stranger Than Heaven release date is January 15th, 2027 worldwide. The game will be released for Xbox Series X/S, PS5 and PC globally. As we were following other releases from ryu ga gotoku studio (previously we talked about The Road of Dust and Sorrow), now we are getting a different experience in terms of mood. The release date is known for all 3 main ecosystems of gaming, with no regional restrictions.
