Square Enix plans to remove the 14-day time limit on the Final Fantasy 11 free trial, making it indefinite. The change is part of a broader effort to expand the trial experience before the game's 25th anniversary in May 2027.
Indefinite trial and level cap increase
The free trial level cap will be raised from 50 to 75. Other restrictions such as auction house access, party invites, gil cap, world transfer, and chat modes will remain in place. Director Yoji Fujito said the current 14-day limit is not enough for players to fully explore the game, especially if they cannot play every day.
Fujito noted that the level 50 cap makes certain missions too difficult, and raising it will make the game more enjoyable. He acknowledged that some may argue players should just pay for the full game, but he wants to improve the trial experience.
The changes are expected to be implemented before the 25th anniversary in May 2027, though Square Enix has not confirmed a specific release date. Fujito stated the company wants to lay the groundwork for various improvements ahead of that milestone.
