A new specs leak suggests Samsung is preparing significant upgrades for its next foldable smartphones. The Galaxy Z Fold 8 and a new variant called the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide are expected to arrive with thinner designs, larger batteries, and improved cameras.
Fold 8 Wide targets lighter users
According to the leak, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 will measure just 4.1mm thick and weigh 210 grams, making it lighter than its predecessor. It is rumored to pack a 5000 mAh battery with 45W charging, up from 25W. The device is said to use the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor. Camera upgrades include a 200MP main sensor and a new 50MP ultrawide, while the two 10MP selfie cameras remain unchanged.
The Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide is a separate model with a 7.6-inch 4:3 display and a weight of about 200 grams. It reportedly features a 50MP main camera and a 50MP ultrawide, but no telephoto lens. Its battery is slightly smaller at 4800 mAh, but still supports 45W charging.
The Fold 8 Wide appears to target users who prioritize a lighter device and a different aspect ratio over a telephoto camera. Both models represent a step forward in charging speed and battery capacity compared to current Samsung foldables. The standard Fold 8 also gains a major camera upgrade with a 200MP main sensor.
