Realme 17T 5G leak reveals redesigned camera island with horizontal strip layout

A leaked image of the Realme 17T 5G reveals a redesigned rear camera island with horizontal strips, differing from the Realme 16T layout.

A leaked image of the upcoming Realme 17T 5G highlights a dramatic departure from the previous generation's design. This suggests a clear shift in the manufacturer's philosophy regarding the mid-range 5G series' hardware aesthetics. If you are a regular consumer of the 17 series, brace yourself for a new look when this one finally drops.

Leaked image shows horizontal camera strips replacing previous design

The leaked image depicts a smartphone believed to be the Realme 17T 5G, a model we haven't received official word on from the vendor yet. From this leak, we get our first solid look at the back of the device. Notice the new camera island.

The camera module has been reworked. The lenses and flash sit within two long, rounded horizontal bars. The module has the squircle design but looks like a horizontal composition.

In this regard, it resembles the Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold, but we don't have evidence of Realme copying that design. Recall that the previous generation, the Realme 16T, had three individual parts to its camera setup.

Right now, we're still waiting for the official word regarding the device's specifications. But based on its predecessor, we can deduce what this one might bring. For instance, the Realme 16T had a 6.81" HD+ IPS LCD with a 144Hz refresh rate.

It also had a Dimensity 6300 chip. Not to mention its massive 8000mAh battery with 45W charging support. So the new one might play in those leagues.

We don't have any information about the price and launch date yet since Realme hasn't rolled out an official spec sheet. For now, we only have a leaked image. So we'll have to wait till we get official word from the vendor to learn more about its entry into the market.

The horizontal strips look like they might be prone to scratching on a nightstand. Is there any word on whether the glass covers the whole module or just the lenses?

It is hard to tell from a single leak but usually these bars are flush. I prefer the old separate camera bump style myself as it is easier to clean. You should wait for the official review if you care about durability.

We are assuming the 8000mAh battery carries over from the 16T but the new camera design might change the internal layout enough to shrink it. Leaks are not spec sheets.

looks like a pixel fold baby 😂

If this launches in Asia first the import costs will kill the value. I need to know the base price before I get excited about the design.

The squircle shape is a bold choice. It mimics high end devices but on a budget chipset. It will either look premium or cheap depending on the finish.

I really hope the battery life is as good as the last model. That 8000mAh was a lifesaver for my long trips.
