Playmaji is set to broaden the modular retro console Polymega by introducing a new adapter set that covers legacy Sega gaming devices. The addition is significant for Polymega users as it adds support for playing games from the Game Gear, Master System, SG-1000, and other legacy gaming consoles without relying on external players. The CA03 Mega Cartridge Adapter Set will provide the Polymega user base with more access to vintage games.

Playmiga expands Polymega compatibility with new Sega cartridge support

The new accessory is specifically tailored for the Polymega modular console, which covers multiple gaming eras in a modular format. To use the CA03 adapter set, users need to have (or purchase) the EM03 Mega Element Module, which forms the base for the above specific cartridge types. As such, it is clear that the adapter set is not a standalone product but an add-on for the overall system.

  • Compatible Cartridges: Game Gear, Master System, SG-1000, Sega Card, MARK III, SC-3000
  • Required Module: EM03 Mega Element Module
  • Price: $99
  • Delivery Date: February 2027

As far as compatibility goes, the adapter set will support cartridges and memory cards for several legacy Sega consoles like the Game Gear, Master System, SG-1000, Sega Card, MARK III, and SC-3000. This covers a sizable segment of Sega's legacy console space, enabling users to use original media cartridges in the Polymega. That's because the console works with the original form and function of these legacy cartridges.

The price of the CA03 Mega Cartridge Adapter Set is $99 for the global market. It's currently up for pre-orders so that interested users can grab a unit before the release window. The delivery window starts in February 2027, providing users with plenty of time to get ready for the new hardware.

This finally gives the Polymega a proper home for Master System and Game Gear carts. I have been waiting for this integration for ages.

Is the EM03 module included in the $99 price or do I need to buy it separately too? The article says it is required but does not clarify if it is bundled.

You need to buy the module separately. The adapter set is just the connector plate. It is not a standalone product.

Why is the delivery date so far out in February 2027? Is there a manufacturing bottleneck or is this just standard lead time for these niche modules?

Nine ninety is steep for a plastic adapter. I would expect this to be under fifty dollars if it is just a simple PCB and housing. The price feels inflated.

I assume the signal routing handles the different pinouts for the SG-1000 and Master System without cross talk. The EM03 module likely does the heavy lifting here.
