Community mods now bring advanced ray tracing features to Capcom's Onimusha: Way of the Sword, giving PC players a way to improve the game's lighting beyond its default settings. This update matters because the base game relies on flat rasterized lighting, which can look less natural than modern ray-traced alternatives. Players who care about visual fidelity can now access these enhancements without waiting for an official patch.
Community mod unlocks ray tracing global illumination and ambient occlusion
The game runs on Capcom's RE Engine and currently supports ray tracing only for reflections by default. A community-developed Graphics Enhancement Mod changes this by unlocking two additional ray tracing features: Ray Tracing Global Illumination (RTGI) and Ray Tracing Ambient Occlusion (RTAO). These features are not part of the official release but are made available through this unofficial modification.
According to the mod author, these two ray tracing features can greatly improve image quality by making lighting feel more natural and grounded. The mod also exposes additional settings for ray tracing resolution, specular quality, shadows, and denoising. However, the author notes that RTGI implementation may cause darker areas because the vanilla game lacks official light source adjustments to support it.
A separate mod allows players to use DLSS 5 in the game, which includes performance optimizations to run DLSS-NR at a reduced resolution for lower performance cost. As of now, we do not know if NVIDIA will work with Capcom to add official DLSS 5 support, as the company is focused on performance and the official timeline is unknown. We've been tracking Onimusha: Way of the Sword closely — see our earlier coverage on Switch 2 Gets Onimusha. These mods provide immediate visual and performance benefits, though they remain unofficial and unsupported by the developer.
