NEC Personal Computers has released the Lavie BT53C, a 13-inch detachable Windows tablet designed to compete directly with Microsoft Surface devices. This release matters to buyers who need a portable, high-performance machine with cellular connectivity options that are rare in the current Windows tablet market. The device targets professionals who require reliable mobile internet and a bright, high-resolution display for work on the go.

The Lavie BT53C runs on 's Panther Lake architecture, offering configurations with the Core Ultra 7 365, Core Ultra 5 335, or Core Ultra 5 332 processors. These chips include an integrated NPU capable of up to 49 TOPS for AI-assisted tasks, which supports modern productivity features without relying solely on cloud processing. The tablet form factor allows users to detach the screen from the keyboard base for standalone use as a large display device.

The device measures 290 x 210 x 9.3 mm, roughly the size of an A4 sheet of paper, and weighs just 866 grams for portability. It features a 5 MP front-facing camera and an 8 MP rear camera for video calls and document scanning. NEC PC states the Lavie BT53C delivers up to 10.1 hours of video playback on a single charge, providing substantial battery life for mobile work sessions.

Pricing starts at 611,600 yen (around $3,733) for the base configuration in Japan. The Lavie BT53C will go on sale in September, limiting initial availability to the Japanese market. This release expands NEC's lineup of detachable Windows devices with more modern internals and connectivity standards compared to previous models.
