Sony is introducing a new power-saving mode for the PlayStation 5 that directly impacts how games run on your console. This change matters because it lets players choose between lower energy use and full performance, though enabling it will reduce game speed. We need to track how widely this feature rolls out across the PS5 library, as it currently depends on individual game support.
Patch 1.009 lets PS5 owners reduce console energy draw
The latest update for Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered brings this Power Saver functionality to Nixxes Software's title. Version 1.009, released on July 23, adds the option without including any new in-game content or story elements. This remaster joins other first-party PlayStation games that have already received this specific system-level tweak.
You can enable the feature by navigating to Settings, then System, Power Saving, and selecting Use Power Saver. When active, supported games will scale back their performance metrics to allow the PS5 to draw less electricity. If the option remains off or if a game lacks support, the system maintains its standard performance and power draw.
Sony explains that the performance reduction only applies when the feature is enabled and the game supports it. Without this setting, the console will not scale back performance or reduce power consumption for that title. This means players who prioritize frame rates or resolution stability should leave the setting disabled in their system preferences.
