Horizon composer Joris de Man has shared a nuanced view on the role of artificial intelligence in game development. He sees both promise and peril in the technology.
De Man used older ML tools on Gotham Knights
De Man previously used older machine learning tools while working on Gotham Knights. He views AI as a useful tool for certain tasks.
However, he strongly opposes the idea of replacing human creatives entirely with AI. He called that push "f***ing insane."
De Man described his mixed feelings in an interview. "The nerdy side of me goes: 'Oh, wow, this is quite cool,'" he said. "But the more creative and artistic side of me goes: 'This is f***ing insane.'" He added that human creativity infuses AI output with unexpected value.
The composer's comments were reported by EDGE Magazine and FRVR. It remains unclear whether his views reflect a broader sentiment among game audio professionals.
