Illfonic released the Day-One Update for Halloween: The Game on September 8, bringing the title to version 1.0.1 across all platforms. This patch addresses critical cross-play matchmaking issues that disrupted play sessions during the Early Access period. Players can now form stable parties without being unexpectedly disconnected from the lobby.
Day-One Update 1.009 stabilizes multiplayer and refines survival mechanics
The update fixes a specific bug where cross-play party members were kicked to the main menu or dropped from the party when joining a matchmade lobby. According to Illfonic, cross-play party members now follow their leader into the matchmade lobby instead of being disconnected. This change restores the intended social structure for mixed-platform groups.
Beyond networking fixes, the patch adjusts NPC pathing for Police and Residents to prevent them from getting stuck or failing to reach escapes. The developers also tweaked Civilian stamina mechanics, including regen delays and consumption rates, to balance the pressure from Michael. These changes aim to smooth out the gameplay loop for both survivors and hunters.
The update increases the discovery range for Escapes to improve the new-player experience for Civilians. It also resolves various crashes, achievement tracking issues, and visual effects bugs related to Michael's Shape Jump. We looked at the last Halloween: The Game update, and several of the same balance and stability themes came up in this release.
The Day-One Update 1.009 is now live on all supported platforms. This patch stabilizes the core multiplayer experience and refines survival mechanics for new players.
