Framework has nearly doubled the price of 32GB and 64GB LPCAMM2 RAM modules for the Laptop 13 Pro overnight. This sudden cost increase matters to buyers because it significantly raises the total price of high-end configurations. The company cites an unexpected price update from the module supplier as the primary cause. Consumers looking to upgrade their existing laptops or build new ones will face steeper costs starting in late July.

Supplier costs drive steep memory upgrades for modular laptop

The Laptop 13 Pro uses the LPCAMM2 standard for its memory upgrades. Framework CEO Nirav Patel warned that the cost surge puts the company at financial risk. The vendor is also raising prices on X7 and X9 systems and mainboards. These broader increases cover chip, Windows licensing, and storage costs. The price hike applies to global markets.

LPCAMM2 Module Pricing

  • LPCAMM2 32GB Price: $800
  • LPCAMM2 64GB Price: $1,600
  • LPCAMM2 16GB Price: $239
  • Previous LPCAMM2 32GB Price: $439
  • Previous LPCAMM2 64GB Price: $849

The new price for the 32GB LPCAMM2 module is $800. This represents a jump from the previous price of $439. The 64GB module has seen an even larger increase, rising from $849 to $1,600. Framework will continue to sell 16GB modules at $239 until current inventory runs out. These prices reflect the new supplier costs.

Framework is adjusting prices across its X7 and X9 product lines as well. The mainboard and system prices will increase to cover additional component and licensing fees. Pre-orders for configurations with increased component prices will be charged at the original pre-order amount. The new laptop remains on track for a late July release. Customers can expect higher total costs for fully specced machines.

Framework confirmed the price changes are due to supplier cost updates. The company faces financial risk from these unexpected expenses. Existing pre-orders are protected at the original price. The 16GB option remains available at the old price while stock lasts. The Laptop 13 Pro releases in late July with these new component costs.
