Square Enix is ending service for Final Fantasy VII: Ever Crisis on October 6, 2026. This closure impacts players worldwide who have invested time and money into the mobile title. The shutdown comes just one month after the game celebrated its third anniversary. We need to look at what this means for the remaining player base.

Square Enix cites unsustainable production costs for high-fidelity visuals

The game was developed by Square Enix for mobile platforms. Producer Shoichi Ichikawa stated that the primary reason for the closure is the unsustainable cost of maintaining high-fidelity visuals. Production expenses for the game's graphics have become too high to justify keeping the servers open. This financial pressure forced the decision to shut down the service.

A final content roadmap outlines the remaining updates for the game. Players can expect episodes from Before Crisis -Final Fantasy VII- to release in July and August 2026. The final story chapter is scheduled to arrive on September 6, 2026. The service will officially terminate at 11:00 PM PDT on October 6, 2026.

Square Enix has already stopped new downloads for the PC port. This discontinuation took effect on July 7, 2026, shortly after the announcement. Refunds for unused Red Crystals are available, but only for players residing in Taiwan. This limited refund policy applies exclusively to the Taiwanese region.

The game launched in July 2023 and ran for three years before this closure. The shutdown marks the end of the mobile experience for this specific title. Players in Taiwan can reclaim their unused currency before the final date. Everyone else must accept the service termination on the scheduled date.
