Blizzard Entertainment released Diablo IV Update 2.18 on September 15 to launch the Season of Hell’s Legacy. This update reshapes the endgame economy and rebalances every class to change how players build characters. We track these changes because they directly impact itemization, crafting costs, and class viability for the coming months.

New seasonal questline and permanent unique items reshape endgame progression

The seasonal content centers on collecting Soul Splinters from Prime Evils to unlock new boons. Players can now equip eight special gems tied to demons and artifacts, including Andariel, Azmodan, Belial, and Duriel. These items add a layer of risk and reward to character progression.

Nine Legacy Unique items are permanently added to the loot table, including Stone of Jordan, Squirt’s Blouse, and Messerschmidt’s Reaver. All Unique items can now drop at Level 1 and in any difficulty. This change allows new players to access powerful gear much earlier in their journey.

Crafting costs have been significantly reduced to lower the barrier for endgame preparation. The Royal Gem cost dropped from 30 to 10 Forgotten Souls, and Grand Gems now cost 50 instead of 300. Magic Tribute crafting and Ancestral enchanting also saw steep reductions in required materials.

Class balance changes target specific performance metrics across the roster. Barbarian Strength scaling reduced from 1.1% to 0.8% per 10 Strength, marking an overall nerf to the class. Druid Willpower scaling increased from 1.25% to 1.625% per 10 Willpower, providing a major buff to that stat line.

Other classes received broad buffs to diversify viable builds. Necromancer Intelligence, Paladin Strength, and Sorcerer Intelligence scaling all increased from 1.25% to 1.625%. Rogue received Cutthroat-focused buffs, while Sorcerer Cold builds got the biggest focus in the rework.

Quality of life improvements extend to the endgame progression systems. Echo of Mephisto now offers improved loot and a guaranteed Mythic drop. War Plans baseline XP for Torment X+ difficulty doubled from 2 to 4 or more depending on the node type.

The update also adjusts defensive stats to favor specialized resistance builds. Single-element Resistance is now valued at 7 times the value of All Resistance. We note that these changes aim to streamline character optimization and reduce the grind for high-tier content.
