SOFTWARE AND UPDATES

Besgnulinux has released version 4-0 of its lightweight distribution. The project targets older computers by providing a system that consumes minimal resources while maintaining usability. This release builds on the Debian Trixie base and utilizes the JWM desktop environment to keep overhead low.

Debian-based Linux distribution targets aging hardware with minimal resource usage

The new version runs on the 6.12.90+deb13-amd64 kernel and requires roughly 8 GB of disk space. It averages 320 MB of RAM usage during typical operation. The software supports both UEFI and BIOS boot methods through Grub installation and uses the Calamares installer for setup.

Besgnulinux includes several visual updates and package changes to improve daily use. Users can adjust display scaling with a new DPI feature that ranges from 72 to 240 dots per inch. The update replaces Pavucontrol with Pasystray and adds separate processes for panel icons. It also features improved font management that selects typefaces based on the system language.

The project aims to extend the life of aging hardware by removing background processes and resource leaks. The developer describes the distribution as a way to prevent old machines from becoming obsolete while keeping users satisfied with a fast interface. Version 4-0 is available as a single 2.7 GB ISO file on SourceForge.
