New CEO approves smart glasses pivot
According to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, incoming CEO John Ternus approved the new direction. The plans for a Vision Pro 2 and a Vision Air have been dropped. Bloomberg's Mark Gurman says a Vision Pro 2 prototype still exists, but the broader headset category is on hold.
Apple is now concentrating on two smart glasses projects. The first is AI smart glasses, expected around 2027. The second is augmented reality glasses, planned for 2029 or later. The new products are intended to succeed the headset line.
