Square Enix has released a preload for Final Fantasy VII Rebirth on Xbox Series X and Series S consoles. The file size now stands at 169.36 GB. This update arrives ahead of the game's official launch window.
Massive file size forces players to clear space on Series S and Switch 2 consoles
The massive storage requirement creates potential issues for some hardware configurations. Base model Xbox Series S consoles ship with only 512 GB of internal storage. Players may need to remove other large titles, such as Forza Horizon 6 at 130 GB, to make room for the RPG. The Switch 2 version reportedly requires 102 GB, which presents a similar constraint given its 256 GB base drive and reliance on MicroSD Express cards.
Game Director Naoki Hamaguchi has acknowledged optimization challenges during development for the Nintendo handheld platform.
