The Zodiac line of customizations turns their focus from owning a device, to owning a piece of personal exclusive art. The high-end customizations provide a platform for the high-income crowd to have something truly unique from the standard world of mass-produced electronic goods, using precious metals and exotic leathers.

Caviar unveils 12 zodiac-themed customizations for the iPhone Duo featuring premium materials

The core hardware that is the foundation of this extreme high-end customization service is the iPhone Duo. Caviar has its typical modifications applied to the outer portion of the device. Through an online configurator, the users can build out their aesthetic desires and be presented with a unique alphanumeric code for the final order. The focus is on building this experience digitally first, and then utilizing a sales rep to finalize the purchase, to be able to visualize the unique material and decoration combination.

Specifications

  • Storage: 256GB
  • Frame Materials: Silver, Gold plating, Titanium with black PVD coating
  • Back Plate Materials: Forged carbon, calfskin, python, crocodile leather
  • Decorative Options: Swarovski crystals, jewelry enamel, meteorite inlays, clous de Paris, chevron patterns

For these base models, they all come equipped with 256GB of internal storage as the starting point. This standardizes the hardware for the extensive exterior modifications. There are several substantial choices for the frame options.

These will be either silver, gold-plated, or titanium with a black PVD coating applied. The back plate options range from forged carbon to a selection of leather options like calf, python, or crocodile leather in a range of color options.

Adding to the device's complexity and expense are the decoration choices available. From Swarovski crystal inlays to meteorite options, the decorative touches are plentiful. For users that are after specific tactile elements, Caviar also offers metal finish options like clous de Paris and chevron. Adding to the list of decoration choices is the use of jewelry enamel, to create intricate color patterns and design on the device's surface.

At a starting price of the basic Capricorn model in the Zodiac line being $14,800 (14800 USD), it gets into some high territory. On the more advanced spectrum of options like the Aquarius model, the price estimate jumps to $18,615 (18615 USD). All of these factors have to do with the choice of materials and the time needed for all of the customization. These phones become a luxury item.

To secure your custom device you need to follow a unique process. You'll need to forward your design code (that you generated) to a Caviar sales manager. From there, the sales team will finalize your price and begin your order to ensure that your bespoke unit meets their high-quality standards. This is a direct sales approach that keeps the exclusivity of the product while they can carefully manage the workflow of the custom build.

We've kept a close eye on the iPhone Duo market. We have previously covered the $90,290 iPhone Duo Dali features with 18K gold and diamonds from Caviar. The new Zodiac line represents a more accessible option to enter into the ultra-luxury world, but all with the high-end materials that Caviar is known for. This helps solidify that there is still an interest in the personalized high-value mods of smartphones for the niche crowd of collectors.

Twelve thousand dollars for a phone with python skin is wild. Do they even fix the hinges well?

  2. M0therb04rd

The titanium frame is the only rational choice here. Gold plating chips too fast.

  3. janky42

maybe the python smells like old gym socks after a week 🤔

Does the black PVD coating on the titanium affect wireless charging efficiency at all?

PVD is a thin physical vapor deposition layer. It is non conductive but extremely thin so it should not block the charging coil signal significantly.

I would worry about the exotic leather peeling off in the heat. How durable is that really?

  6. Nadir

Just paying for the brand name. The storage is capped at 256GB which feels stingy for this price point.

i still miss the days when custom phones were just stickers 💀

  8. Vosloo

Add local taxes and shipping to that base price and it becomes absurd even for luxury buyers.

  9. FrodoNope

    absolutely insane pricing
