Apple is set to announce a new MacBook Pro later today which will change the way you interact with information on screen drastically. Why this is important? Well because the new device ditches the controversial notch with a smaller punch hole camera and introduces a dynamic interface piece. For those of you who require constant status updates of your system – you're going to feel it in your day to day activities right away.
macOS 27 code reveals interactive pill-shaped UI replacing static notch
The new MacBook Pro has a thinner, lighter design and OLED touchscreen which resolves so many design complaints. We've been following the MacBook Pro closely including the previous news about the Apple Touchscreen MacBook Pro 100 Confirmed for late 2026. It seems like this new one is making those touchscreen features sooner with a tweaked hardware design.
macOS 27 code shows some graphics for a feature called 'Dynamic Island' in the laptop which adjusts for the new hardware. The Dynamic Island is a pill-shaped area which will show system events such as AirPods connected, Focus mode or low battery. It's basically replacing the static notch with a dynamic area of interaction which can cater to what you need.
This pill shaped Dynamic Island can also show stuff like what you're playing in the background (music) or a timer you may have going so the screen doesn't clutter up. The focus here is to cram as much information as possible in while still maintaining space. That's the real technical change here which is driving this hardware change – the software.
This is definitely the way Apple is heading with its laptops. Software/hardware synergy. We can confirm the hardware change and the software feature – both from available code and what we expect. The new MacBook Pro will be a more portable device with advanced interactive displays.

Does the dynamic island pill actually consume significant cursor space on a 16 inch display or is it just a small overlay like macOS Ventura introduced
It is a small overlay. The code suggests it sits in the notch area which is now a punch hole. It does not take up full width like the old notch did. This preserves more screen real estate for your workspace.
finally ditched the notch 🤔
I have been using the dynamic island on my phone for years but seeing it on a laptop screen is a weird shift for me. Does it work with external monitors as well
