Microsoft has deployed the first software patch for the Surface Laptop Ultra to fix prolonged reboots and continuous screen flickers. The patch addresses the issue of abrupt restarts and also brings a general boost to the performance of the system. It is recommended that people who have run into the issues of stability consider this 200.0.7.0 update to get their system back on track.
First firmware patch resolves reboot and flicker issues on Nvidia N1X laptop
The software update is focused on Surface Laptop Ultra. Which is basically a laptop model that is based on Nvidia RTX Spark N1X processor. The 20 core processor powers up the internal workings of the device. The software updates are meant to improve the overall experience for the particular hardware configuration.
- Update Version: 200.0.7.0
- Processor: Nvidia RTX Spark N1X (20-core)
- Display Technology: Mini-LED
- PWM Backlight Frequency: 4,650 Hz
- Black-to-White Response Time: 57 ms
On the hardware front there are some physical constraints of the device that the software cannot really help. It has a Mini-LED display panel which has a slow response rate of 57 ms (black to white). There's a high black level of 0.61 nit, which can impact contrast in dark scenes. The display characteristics will not change with the new firmware.
Regarding the performance, the N1X chip runs at 80W burst and 60W sustained. The multi-core performance is the same as Asus ProArt P16 as per the reviewer performance. The single core performance is 1/3 of the Apple M5 processor. The device is available starting at 2599 USD ($~2599).
We did mention that the firmware support should stay up to 2032. A number of the similar balance and stability concerns came up when we reported on the previous Surface Laptop Ultra update. Microsoft is continually optimizing the software side of things for this hardware platform.
