Microsoft has unveiled the Surface Laptop Ultra, a new 15-inch device that pairs a high-resolution display with an ARM-based processor designed for efficiency and AI workloads. The device continues Microsoft's focus on high-end mobile computing by using the RTX Spark platform to manage intensive workloads efficiently.

Device features mini-LED screen with 2000 nits brightness and RTX Spark processor for AI tasks

The device features a 15-inch mini-LED PixelSense Ultra touchscreen with a peak HDR brightness of 2000 nits and a pixel density of 262 pixels per inch. Under the hood, it runs on NVIDIA's RTX Spark processor, which provides up to 128GB of unified memory for handling large AI models and complex rendering tasks.

Microsoft has updated Windows to raise the GPU memory ceiling, allowing the system to support larger memory configurations required by modern applications. The laptop also includes a comprehensive port selection with HDMI, USB-C, USB-A, an SD card slot, and a headphone jack, ensuring compatibility with existing peripherals.

The platform relies on Microsoft Power and Thermal Framework (MPTF) in partnership with NVIDIA to optimize performance per watt across workloads. Adobe Photoshop, Premiere Pro, Blender, and DaVinci Resolve run natively on ARM, while the Prism emulator enables x86 software compatibility for RTX Spark GPU acceleration.

Several major titles including League of Legends, Valorant, PUBG, Alan Wake 2, Naraka: Bladepoint, and War Thunder are confirmed or coming to the platform. The company collaborates with NVIDIA on the Microsoft Power and Thermal Framework to optimize power efficiency during various tasks.

The Surface Laptop Ultra will launch later this year. This model advances ARM-based personal computers through its bright mini-LED screen and shared memory design.
