New bully remake that's a fan-made adaptation of Bully: Scholarship Edition with dynamic speech and memory capabilities is in the making that will add a new dimension to Rockstar Games' classic game. This remake moves the game from a linear experience to a game where NPCs have a memory of your previous actions and can respond accordingly in real-time. This might be an interesting project for gamers who want to see what modern AI can do with classic games.
Fan project replaces fixed dialogue with AI-driven NPC memory and conversation
A modder, oh-ashen-one, is working on the project. Unreal Engine 5.8 is used to power this Bully remake. The modder describes this project as a 1-to-1 port of the original game.
Source code can be found on GitHub named bully-remake. It's not a game created by Rockstar Games, but the modder uses assets and structure from the original game.
The Bully remake is trying to bring AI-based conversations to a game that used to have very limited dialogue capability. The modder added Fish Audio to the game to bring consciousness and speech capabilities to NPCs in the game. This way, NPCs can have a memory of previous conversations and respond dynamically.
There are no more eight options to select from. These additions will provide more fluid and dynamic character interactions in the school setting of the game.
The modder plans to add a new layer in which NPCs will do things on their own in future updates. The idea is to make it more like Animal Crossing in which NPCs do their own thing. There is partial porting to a modern engine in the current version.
It's important to note that this is a fan-made project. Not a game released by Rockstar Games.
