The Chinese manufacturer Topfeel announced their DeskOne A1 compact workstation that caters to those looking for a powerful device in a small form factor. The 21-liter workstation gives you desktop performance in a compact space. This can be helpful for settings where space is limited but computation power is still critical.

Compact workstation features dual Thunderbolt 5 and PCIe Gen5 expansion

The new machine is especially geared towards professional users who want a powerful CPU and a lot of connectivity while not having to deal with the bulk of a full desktop PC. Topfeel DeskOne A1 is based on the Core Ultra 9 275HX CPU with 24 cores and 24 threads. It's based on the Arrow Lake architecture and is the main core of the workstation.

Specifications

  • CPU: Intel Core Ultra 9 275HX (24 cores, 24 threads)
  • RAM: Up to 256 GB DDR5-7200 (4 slots)
  • Dimensions: 370 x 195 x 290 mm (approx. 21 liters)
  • Connectivity: Dual Thunderbolt 5, Dual Thunderbolt 4, 10G Ethernet
  • Expansion: 2x PCIe Gen5 slots (x16 and x8)

That means it's capable of handling complex tasks and workloads with many cores. The configuration and choice of components clearly aim for professional use, not for casual computing. The DeskOne A1 has support for up to 256GB of 7200 MHz DDR5 memory in four DIMM slots. Storage-wise you get one M.2 PCIe Gen5 x4 slot, two M.2 PCIe Gen4 x4 slots and two SFF-8654 4i.

You also get two PCIe slots for further expansion, one x16 and one x8, both Gen5. Connectivity options include two Thunderbolt 5 ports, two Thunderbolt 4 ports, and you can pick between 10G and 2.5G Ethernet.

You also get 7x USB 3.2 Gen2 ports Type-A, HDMI 2.1, and a COM port for your old devices. This allows you to connect to many different devices and networks. The multicore performance of the CPU seems to be on par with Apple's M4 Max chip, and a bit faster than the Ryzen 9 9955HX chip.

That's according to the Notebookcheck database performance tests. This means that it's up there with other high-end compact performance devices. Topfeel DeskOne A1 is already available for pre-order in China, starting October 20, 2024.

It's not clear if it'll be available internationally, as Topfeel didn't confirm if their DeskOne A1 would be available outside of China. There are no specific pricing details either, so potential buyers have to wonder about the final price tag. Both factors may play a role for people outside of China when considering a purchase.
