Gearbox Software has announced a free update for Borderlands 4 that introduces a new raid boss encounter. Update 1.7 will be released on May 28, 2025. The boss fight features Subjugator and Thol the Invincible. If one falls, the survivor becomes more powerful, similar to the Ornstein and Smough fight from Dark Souls.
New raid boss and weapons arrive
The update adds several new weapons. These include the Pearlescent Ripper SMG, the Jail-Broken Gatling, the Lockjaw assault rifle, the Shammy Kablammy pistol, the Flak Cannon heavy weapon, and the Collector energy shield. Unique class mods for each of the five Vault Hunters are also included. A sixth class mod is planned for a later Story Pack 2. Version 1.7 also introduces a shared character progression toggle.

A 40 percent discount is available on Steam. The base game costs 41.99 USD (about $41.99) or 35.99 GBP (about $48.42). The super deluxe edition costs 77.99 USD (about $77.99) or 71.99 GBP (about $96.85).
A developer stream is scheduled for May 26, 2025. Version 1.8 is planned for late June. It will include a Takedown challenge and Bounty Pack 3 DLC.
