Funcom has released Update 2.20 for Conan Exiles, a patch that directly impacts storage management for players on all platforms. The update arrives on July 28 and limits the number of automatic save backups the game retains. This change matters because it reduces the disk space required for long-term saves, which helps players with limited storage capacity. It also streamlines the backup process for dedicated server administrators who manage large game files.

Funcom reduces automatic save retention to optimize storage

The patch applies to the Exiles Legacy version of the game across PC, Xbox, and PlayStation consoles. Funcom adjusted the automatic silent restore system to keep fewer backup files in the event of save corruption. On Xbox and PS4, the system now retains 32 backups instead of the previous 64. PC and server users see a reduction from three hours of backups down to one hour. These changes apply to the 5-minute interval backup schedule used by the game engine.

  • Update Version: 2.20
  • Save Backup Retention (Consoles): Reduced from 64 to 32 (5-minute interval backups)
  • Save Backup Retention (PC/Servers): Reduced from 3 hours worth to 1 hour worth
  • Disk Space Reduction: Up to 50% for Exiles Legacy savegames played over 3 hours

The technical adjustment cuts disk space usage for Exiles Legacy saves by up to 50 percent. This reduction specifically targets games that have been played for over three hours. Dedicated servers running these saves will require approximately half the hard drive space for their backup files. Funcom stated that these tweaks aim to reduce overall disk usage without removing the ability to restore corrupted saves. The company provided a direct quote confirming the reduction from 64 to 32 backups on consoles and from three hours to one hour on PC.

Beyond storage changes, the update includes fixes for Crom Coin delivery issues on PlayStation. It also resolves character transfer reimport bugs that affected player progression. The Black Lotus Bazaar received a refresh with a new free weekly slot for items. These additions address stability concerns that appeared in the previous patch cycle. We looked at the last Conan Exiles update earlier while tracking these balance and stability themes.

The update is available globally on all platforms as of July 28. Players can download the patch immediately to benefit from the reduced storage requirements. The changes are permanent for new and existing saves under the new retention policy. This release marks the latest step in Funcom's effort to optimize Conan Exiles for long-term play.
