Analogue has released a significant firmware update for its Analogue3D FPGA console, targeting the core experience of playing classic games. The update addresses previous concerns regarding image clarity and save state management. These changes improve the daily usability of the system for current and potential owners. The update is available now as a roughly 22MB download for users with an internet connection or SD card reader.

Firmware 1.5 brings upscaling and memory features to the FPGA console

The software update brings version 1.5 of the firmware, which runs on the 3DOS operating system. This combination of updates introduces numerous changes to how the console handles graphics and memory. The update installation process requires copying the firmware file to an SD card or connecting the device via USB Type-C. The update can be applied via software without requiring hardware returns or new models.

  • Firmware Version: 1.5
  • OS Version: 3DOS
  • Download Size: 22MB

A major feature in this release is the addition of Internal Graphical Upscaling. This feature improves image quality while preserving the original artistic intent of the games. The system renders games at a higher internal resolution before outputting them to the display. This feature enhances visual sharpness on modern monitors while preserving the original game design.

The update also introduces a 'Recent Memory' feature that allows players to resume games from the point they were left. This functionality simplifies save state management for users who switch between games frequently. Additionally, the firmware resolves game stuttering and compatibility issues with the 8BitDo N64 Modkit. Interface refinements and fixes for rare interface bugs were included to stabilize the user experience.

Analogue has confirmed that these changes are now live for all Analogue3D owners. The update addresses specific technical issues while adding features that enhance the retro gaming experience. Users are advised to verify that their device is running the latest version of 3DOS. The company continues to support the hardware through software improvements that extend its usability.
