SOFTWARE AND UPDATES

Microsoft has released the May 2026 non-security preview update for Windows 11, designated KB5089573. This patch targets specific builds of the operating system and introduces several functional improvements to audio handling and camera access.

New patch enables simultaneous audio streaming to multiple Bluetooth devices and allows two apps to access the same camera input.

The update applies to Windows 11 version 24H2, upgrading it to build number 26100.8524. It also updates the preview branch for version 25H2 to build 26200.8524. Microsoft released this patch on May 26, 2026.

A key addition in KB5089573 is Shared Audio support. This feature enables a single audio stream to broadcast simultaneously to multiple Bluetooth LE Audio devices. Shared Audio requires Bluetooth LE Audio-compatible devices to broadcast a single audio stream to multiple receivers simultaneously.

The patch also introduces multi-app camera access. Users can now run two applications that utilize the same physical camera input at once. Task Manager has been updated to track Neural Processing Unit utilization alongside traditional CPU, GPU, and RAM metrics.

Windows Hello sign-in behavior has been adjusted in this update. The system restores face or fingerprint recognition as the default authentication method after a PIN fallback occurs on the next login cycle. Windows Hello now restores face or fingerprint recognition as the default sign-in method after a PIN fallback on subsequent logins.
