ANDROID

An unofficial Android port of Grand Theft Auto V is moving from concept to reality, offering a native ARM experience for mobile gamers who want to play the title without relying on Windows emulation layers. This development matters because it bypasses the performance overhead and compatibility friction typical of emulators like Winlator, potentially delivering a smoother experience on supported hardware. We can track this progress as the developer shares updates on Discord, keeping the community informed about the project's timeline and technical hurdles.

The unofficial port aims to run natively on ARM hardware.

Native ARM build excludes Exynos and Mali chips in first release

The project is led by community developer M0jso, who operates under the name Paralympics Productions. M0jso confirmed on Discord that the port is currently in active development, marking a significant step for fans who have long sought a native mobile version of the Rockstar Games title. The work appears to leverage the same codebase used for the unofficial port, which was based on leaked source code from 2023. This shared foundation suggests that the Android build benefits from existing optimization work for ARM-based consoles.

Rockstar Games has set strict hardware requirements for the initial public release, which targets Snapdragon processors exclusively. The minimum floor includes a Snapdragon 865 processor, 8GB of RAM, and 65GB of available storage. Chips must achieve a Geekbench 6 single-core score of at least 1069 to be included in the supported group. Devices with lower scores are marked as capable but lack a performance guarantee from the developer.

The first public version excludes several other mobile GPU architectures, including Samsung Exynos with Xclipse graphics, Mali GPU devices, and PowerVR-based Tensor chips. Helio platforms are also listed as not planned for support in this initial build. While Mali GPU devices may receive support at some point, the current focus remains entirely on Snapdragon hardware. This exclusion limits the audience to users with specific Qualcomm chipsets, leaving many other Android phones unable to run the port initially.

An exact release date for the first public build remains unknown, as the source only confirms the project is headed our way. Performance stability on supported devices is also unconfirmed, with the developer noting that lower-tier chips may struggle despite meeting minimum specs. We will need to wait for the official release to see how the native implementation handles the game's demanding graphics and open-world systems on mobile hardware.
