Under Mythos Dark Fantasy JRPG Announced for Switch and PC in 2028

KADATH, a new Tokyo-based studio founded by producer Yoichi Miyaji, has revealed its debut title, Under Mythos, a dark fantasy role-playing game that merges cozy inn management with action combat. This announcement matters because it introduces a fresh IP from a team with deep experience in major franchises like Pokemon and GRANDIA, offering players a unique blend of relaxation and dungeon exploration. The game centers on a cat protagonist working at a hot spring inn, setting a tone that balances peaceful management with intense action sequences.

The protagonist is a small character inspired by Nyarlathotep, the Cthulhu Mythos god of chaos, reimagined as a familiar companion rather than a terrifying entity. Graphic designer and illustrator Atsuko Nishida explained her creative approach to this character design in a direct statement. She said, "I interpreted Nyarlathotep from the Cthulhu Mythos in my own way, and this little character was born! Nyarlathotep may be a god of chaos, but I hope this character can become someone people love, just like a familiar cat by their side."

Under Mythos combines peaceful inn management with dungeon exploration and action combat, creating a hybrid gameplay loop. The development team includes veterans from Pokemon, Tales of the Abyss, GRANDIA, and LUNAR, bringing established industry expertise to this new project. KADATH is currently preparing a vertical slice of the game to demonstrate its core mechanics and visual style. The studio is also seeking collaboration partners to assist with future development stages.

The game is scheduled for release on Nintendo Switch and PC via Steam in 2028. This timeline allows the team ample time to refine the vertical slice and secure necessary partnerships before launch.
