Rust players can now build permanent homes and run businesses in the new Common Ground update. This shift changes the survival loop by letting you own property instead of always starting over. You can rent rooms in a new apartment complex or open a shop to sell goods to other players. These additions give groups a reason to stay in one place and invest time in a base.

New clan system and rentable properties change the survival loop

Facepunch Studios released the Common Ground update for the survival game Rust. The update introduces a new Clan system that replaces simple teams for larger groups. Clans allow more members to join with specific roles and permissions. You can manage these groups using Clan Tables and communicate through a separate chat channel.

The update adds two new monuments to the world map. The Apartment Complex lets you rent rooms ranging from basements to penthouses. You can find a master key to loot these rooms when you start a new wipe. The second new monument is a set of Rentable Shops. You can set up inventory and modify signage to sell items to other players.

Softcore mode receives a 2x multiplier for animals, food, ore, and wood. This change helps players gather resources faster while building their new homes. Raid protection is now active between 6 and 9pm local server time. This window gives you time to create a cozy space before setting out on a raid. Facepunch also updated player animations for sprinting with rifles or one-handed melee weapons. You can now use 27 new wallpapers to customize the interior of your base.

The Common Ground update is live now for all players globally. You do not need to wait for a specific region release to try these new features. Clans are not available in Hardcore mode, so this content is for Softcore servers only. The update adds structure to the survival experience without changing the core game mechanics.
