Tripwire Interactive released the Operation: Shadow Hunter update for Killing Floor 3 on July 23, bringing significant technical improvements to PC players while adding fresh content for all platforms. This patch addresses long-standing performance issues that caused frame drops during intense combat, making the game more stable for everyone. We have tracked these updates closely, and this release follows the same pattern of balancing and stability fixes we saw in the last Killing Floor 3 update.

Tripwire Interactive releases patch 2.015 with new perk and performance tweaks

The update arrives as Patch 2.015 for PC and version 1.0.0.18 for Xbox consoles, ensuring both platforms receive the new content simultaneously. Players can now access the Gunslinger perk, which adds a new playstyle to the existing roster of character classes. The game also introduces the Hastur Oil Platform map, providing a fresh environment for cooperative missions.

  • Patch Version: 2.015
  • Xbox Version: 1.0.0.18
  • New Perk: Gunslinger
  • New Map: Hastur Oil Platform
  • New Boss: Moorcroft

Technical changes form a major part of this release, with Tripwire Interactive optimizing shader compilation to reduce stuttering. The developer claims this change will drastically reduce or eliminate in-game stutters caused by on-the-fly shader compiling. They also implemented an animation tick refactor that cuts per-frame load by 85%, which should improve performance on lower-end hardware.

New gameplay content includes the Moorcroft boss and a Suicidal difficulty level that sits between Hard and Hell on Earth. The update also brings extensive balance adjustments to weapons, mods, and perks, including buffs to the Artemis and Stormguard classes. Several stability fixes address crashes related to AI, UI, and matchmaking systems.

The Operation: Shadow Hunter update is available globally now on PC and Xbox. Tripwire Interactive stated that the release adds the Gunslinger Perk and a whole lot more to the game. We looked at previous patches to understand the trajectory of these changes, and this update continues the trend of refining the core experience.
