Gamma has released early details on GammaOS Nano, a custom firmware designed to extend the lifespan of budget retro handhelds. This update matters because it replaces the stock operating systems on devices like the TrimUI Brick with a more versatile platform. Users who own these specific Android-based consoles can now access a wider range of emulation cores and standalone applications. The release signals a shift toward more powerful software solutions for entry-level gaming hardware.

Custom firmware replaces stock OS on TrimUI Brick with XMB navigation

The new firmware targets three specific handheld models: the TrimUI Brick, the Anbernic RG DS, and the RG Rotate. Gamma describes GammaOS Nano as a completely new system rather than a simple skin or modification of existing software. The developer confirmed that the firmware is not RetroArch itself, though it retains the ability to launch RetroArch cores. This distinction allows the system to manage both core-based emulators and standalone game files within a unified environment.
